Pachacutec Expeditions will begin the Inca Jungle Trail by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 6.30 a.m. and driving you to Abra de Malaga, (4,350m/14,124ft), the higest pass in the Vilcanota Range. From here, we will bicycle downhill until we get to the small town of Santa Maria, at (1,430m/4,692ft). Along our journey, we will pass the picturesque rolling hills and snow-capped peaks of the Vilcanota Mountain Range. We will have opportunities to take some pictures along the way as well, as it is going to take around 3.5 or 4 hours of downhill riding to reach Santa Maria. The ride is wonderful and relaxing at the same time.
When we finally arrive, we will have some free time to rest or go for a walk.  You might also decide to join the Rafting tour on the Urabamba River for an additional cost of US $35.

Day 2

Santa María – Santa Teresa: Trekking (23Km)

We will begin the day’s trekking after enjoying a delicious breakfast. Walking through the Inca Jungle Trail, we will identify the flora and fauna that we will see while we are walking in a tropical forest. The gorgeous sorroundings will provide us with many memorable photo opportunities. We will also have a chance to visit a local Coca Plantation on the way. During this part of the Inca Jungle Trail, we will walk for a while on a section of the original Inca trail that still remains in use today.

Several kilometers before we arrive into Santa Teresa, we will find a hot spring where we will have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the naturally heated waters of the mineral enriched hot baths. We will be able to relax there until it is time for us to leave for dinner. Our hostel for the night will be in the town of Santa Teresa.

Day 3

Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes : trekking 16Km

We will begin our third day on the Inca Jungle Trail at 6:30 a.m. with an energetic breakfast.
Optional for this morning is an amazing Zip-Line tour, with an extra cost of US $35. Today, the climate will be even more tropical as we are close to the ancient city. We will walk for approximately 5 – 6 hours until we reach Aguas Calientes, walking by the truck road to a Hydro-Electric Power Plant, where there is a sacred ceremonial inka site, named IntiHuatana. From here we can glimpse Machu Picchu from a distance above the mountain ridge. We will arrive in Aguas Calientes by trekking along the rail way. Once we arrive in Aguas Calientes, we will take you to your hotel. This night we will share a dinner with our guide as he briefs us on the next day’s plans before we go to sleep.

Day 4

Machu Picchu – Cusco

We will wake up very early, at 4:00 am, in order to start trekking up the mountain to Machu Picchu in time to catch the magnificent sunrise at the top. It will take approximately an hour and 45 minutes to reach the top by way of the famous stairs. Here we will be able to celebrate the successful completion of the Inca Jungle Trail by taking memorable photos together. When we first arrive, our guide will take us on a 2 or 3 hour walking tour of the  Machu Picchu Inca site, enriching us with the Inca’s history. The guide will be very knowledgable and the tour will be very informative. After the guided portion of the tour, you will have some free time to explore the ruins on your own. If you want to climb Huayna Pichu, it is recommended to book in advance, at least two months before you come, or book it with the tour at an additional cost of US $15. There is a strict limit of 400 people per day permitted to climb the Huayna Picchu mountain. The round trip walking to the peak of Huayna Picchu takes about an hour and a half. The stunning views from the top certainly make it worth the effort.

Once you have finished exploring Machu Picchu, you will need to return to Aguas Calientes to catch the return train to Cusco or Ollantaytambo. You will be met at either destination by a driver who will take you  back to your hostel or hotel in Cusco
