Salkantay & Inca Trail

Salkantay & Inca Trail was the most extensive and highly advanced comunications system in pre-Columbian times. These paths were used by the Incas to take offering to the sacred mountains and to run messages back and forth to Machupicchu. Salkantay / Inca Trail tour, you will experience the real adventures of the Andes with its amazing views of the Salkantay glacier mountain (6200 meters high) lush valleys, magnificent rivers, cloud forest, and its amazing flora and fauna such as llamas, alpacas, condors and orchids. We also have an opportunity to enjoy and see some Inca ruins along the way.

Itinerary

Day 1

SORAYPANPA – PANPA JAPONESA.

We will pick you up at 5:00am from your hotel and travel by private van to SorayPampa.  After getting ready, we will hike 4 hours uphill to Pampa Japonesa (4500m/14850ft) where we will camp for the night, overlooking Salkantay mountain.

Day 2

 PAMPA JAPONESA – PAMPACAHUANA.

After breakfast, we will start hiking through a valley until we reach the Inkachiriaska pass (4700m/15510ft) which is the highest point of the whole trek. Tonight we will camp at the Pampacahuana campsite (4000m/13123ft) which will be the coldest night.

Day 3

PAMPACAHUANA- INCA CANAL – WAYLLABAMBA.

After breakfast, we continue our hike passing through some streams and visiting small archeological sites near the village Wayllabamba (3000m/9843ft). This is the starting point for the Classic Inca Trail which we will start the next morning. We camp here for the night.

Day 4

WAYLLABAMBA – WARMIWAÑUSCA – PACAYMAYU.

To enjoy the beautiful panorama and mystical atmosphere, our day starts early in the morning. The trek takes us to the valleys of Yuncachimpa (3300m/10827ft) and Lulluchapampa (3850m/12631ft) and finally leads us to the Warmiwañusca pass (4200m/13780ft). From here, you can see an impressive view of the snow-capped mountain Wayanay. After a short rest at the summit, we will continue walking down to our camping place: Pacaymayu (3500m/11483ft).

Day 5

PACASMAYU – WIÑAYHUAYNA.

We begin the most beautiful day of the trek after a delicious breakfast. The first ruin of the day is Runkurakay (3050m/10065ft). Perched on a rocky outcrop, this site was supposed to be a Tambo (resting place). We continue the ascent to a pass, at an altitude of 3950m/13035ft. On our way to the campsite, we pass through the Sayacmarca ruins (3600m/11880ft). This is an ancient city composed of winding, narrow streets. Later, we pass an Inca tunnel and walk through a forest before reaching the last pass. Below, you will see the ruin of Phuyupatamarca: “City above the clouds”. This is an impressive site composed of circular walls and an ingenious system of aqueducts that still function. As we decend, we will pass through a thick canopy of bamboo. The last campsite is in Wiñayhuayna. This is where we will spend our last night in tents.

Day 6

MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO.

On our final day, we will wake up before dawn and prepare for one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of our lives, arriving at Machu Picchu. We will leave the last campsite at about 5:30am, and after an hour of walking we will arrive to ‘Inti Punku’ (‘The Sun Gate’) at 2730m/8792ft. From Inti Punku, you will be amazed by your first dramatic view of the sun rising over MachuPicchu. After soaking in the view, we will walk down the final part of the trail and approach the ancient city, where we will be able to celebrate our accomplishment and take unforgettable pictures together. We will descend to the main entrance, where we can leave our backpacks, go to the bathroom, and enjoy a quick coffee. After our break, we will re-enter MachuPicchu for a walking tour of the mysterious city, followed by four hours of free time for your own exploration of the site.
You can choose to climb for 45 minutes to the peak of HuaynaPicchu (2750m/8940ft). To climb this mountain, you must first buy tickets in advance, this can be done while reserving this tour .The tickets for Huaynapicchu are limited to 400 people per day (200 from 7am to 9am and 200 from 10am to 12pm).

After enjoying our final hours at MachuPicchu, you will take the bus down to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will meet for lunch. You will then be given your train tickets for the return trip to Cusco.

Pachacutec Expeditions, tries to not have any hidden fees. We includes a porter that will carry your personal belongings in all of our treks, no additional cost.
We will provide you with a duffel bag to put all of your belongings in. The duffel bags easily fit 8 Kilograms /16 pounds per person including your sleeping bags.
However, you will still need to carry your day pack with all of your essentials like water, sunscreen, passport, etc
We offer a discount of US$20 to students with a valid International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and to children under the age of 16 years old. Scanned copies of your ISIC card or child’s passport must be provided at the time of paying the deposit for the trek in order to qualify for the discount. International.

Train for the end of your Trek

The most common departure time that we suggest for our tourists is 18:45pm. This departure time will allow you to spend more time at Machu Picchu and do more activities like climb Huayna Picchu mountain (which can be booked additionally) and enjoy the hot springs or some cervezas after a long trek.
The 18:45pm train will arrive in Ollantaytambo train station at 20:20pm and you will be picked up by your driver outside of the train station. The driver will be holding a sign with your name on it so that there is no confusion. If you do not see the driver initially, just wait for them outside the train station. Once the driver has picked you up, then you will travel for 1 1/2 hours in a van before you arrive back at your hotel/hostel. Arrival time in Cusco is 10:00pm approximately.
The earliest departure time available in the afternoon is 14:55pm, and this is for Travelers who are planning to leave Cusco city early in the morning the next day to go ahead with their travel plans.
Important: We guarantee this early Expedition departures as per the itinerary, if you book your tours in 2 months in advance, otherwise we may be forced to offer Expedition train that departs at 18:45pm only.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

If you are thinking of climbing Huayna picchu mountain you must book in advance. Only 400 people can hike Huaynapicchu per day. You will climb it on your own after the tour in Machupicchu around 10 .00 am. we recomend you  to book  in advance  to let us know Machu picchu Mountain also is another alternative climbing mountain, we recomend it, if  huayna picchu mountain is overbook, this is an aditional cost.
